Reading:    

Literature Circles time! Remember: for each meeting, you have to have read your book up to the page your group agreed on, choose two questions below to answer in six sentences (minimum), and write a question of your own. Your own question will be answered during the group discussion. You do not need to answer it. 

Tuesday: Hatchet

Wednesday: Stormbreaker

Thursday: Heat

Miss Beyer's questions:

  1. Explain how a character is acting and why you think the character is acting that way.
  2. Pick one character and explain why you would/would not like to have him/her as a friend.
  3. Explain a character's problem and then offer your character advice on how to solve his/her problem.
  4. From what you've read so far, make predictions about what will happen next and explain what in the text makes you think it will happen.
  5. Describe and explain why you would/would not like to have lived in the time or place of the story.
  6. Do you have any unanswered questions about the story? Explain.
  7. What real-life people or events are you reminded of by characters or events in the story? Explain why.
  8. Write about what would happen if you brought one of your characters to school or home for a day.
  9. Pick a scene in which you disagreed how a character handled a situation/person and rewrite it in the way you think it should have happened.
  10. What quality of which character strikes you as a good characteristic to develop within yourself over the years? Why? How does the character demonstrate this quality?

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Below is a comprehensive school supply list for the upcoming school year. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact one of your child’s teachers. It will be extremely helpful if your child has all their supplies for the first day of school.

 

  • Milk crate (6th grade homeroom only - check Staples and Wal-Mart for sales)

  • Binder (zipper style preferred)
  • Binder tabs for organization of classes: Religion, Math, Science, English, Reading, Social Studies
  • 3 Wide-ruled filler paper
  • Soft pencil case with binder holes to hold in binder
    • Sharpened pencils

    • Highlighter
    • Dry erase markers

    • Small pack of colored pencils

ICA has ordered an assignment book for your child. A small fee will be charged. The fee will be sent home in September.
